This breed, on the contrary, differs fearlessness and curiosity.
She has very developed hunting instincts and extremely sensitive sense of smell. Therefore, do not pull the dog when it carefully sniffs the bush. So she reads the information she needs. The new person will get used to, and look closely, before starting to trust him. But the Basenji are never aggressive towards a person. Therefore, they are very reliable companions, even for inexperienced dog breeders and for families with children at any age.
In dog society, everything will be the other way around - the Basenji will strive to dominate.
Peculiarities of the dog breed
As already noted, the Basenji do not bark, but according to the situation they make their own sounds. Also they do not have an unpleasant "canine" smell and practically do not shed. Because this is a semi-wild animal, it's pretty cool.
The most common diseases are urolithiasis and cataracts. It's very important for the Basenji to run constantly. Movement for them is vital, because they are fast, very active, extremely fast dog hunters. If they are deprived of movement, locked in an apartment, they may lose heart. Basenji are well trained. But they can not be offended at all, use physical punishment and intimidation. The path to the heart and mind of this dog lies only through positive reinforcement and encouragement. Also, it becomes uninteresting for a dog to do the same thing, so do not tire yourself with frequent repetitions of commands.
Her memory is already good enough. Therefore, the Basenji very much like a variety of outdoor games and actively participate in coursing and agility. The behavior of the Basenji at home and on a walk is radically different. In the house it is not visible and is not audible, but on the street it seems to come to life, reveals all its life-giving potential. There is one more interesting feature of this breed. African silent people do not like to swim terribly. According to one version - this ancient genetic memory reminds them of crocodiles that live in water. In any case, do not try to make your basenji swim if she does not like it.
